3. Friction laws

Friction is defined in terms of contact speeds. The shear vector representing friction stresses is defined by : $\vec{τ} = τ \frac{Δ \vec{V}}{‖ \vec{V} ‖}$

with :

$Δ \vec{V}$: velocity difference between the two solids in contact
