3.1 Scratch parameters

Although the scratch test is now a commonly used tool for comparisons between different materials, it is still difficult to express the adhesion of a layer-substrate system in a quantitative way, as the appearance of a critical load depends on several parameters, some of which are linked to the test itself (intrinsic parameters) and others more related to the layer-substrate couple (extrinsic parameters).
