6. Mixed treatments
These treatments involve the successive application of two processes:
deposit a filler metal on the substrate using conventional processes (galvanic deposition, vacuum deposition);
apply heat treatment to the coated component, so that the filler metal diffuses into the surface layers to form solid solutions or intermetallic compounds with surface properties better suited to withstand tribological stresses.
The principle is to select the initial coating metals in such a way that the phases formed improve tribological compatibility with the antagonistic material. Table 20
