INTRODUCTION
From materials to commercial display systems
In the first folder , we set out the basic principles governing electroluminescence, focusing on the mechanisms of charge injection, transport and recombination. We have also shown how light yields can be improved, in particular by doping the emitting layers and taking advantage of the phosphorescence of certain organometallic complexes.
In this second dossier, we present the different materials used in organic electroluminescence (polymers and low-molecular-weight molecules), emphasizing in the case of polymers the efforts made to develop suitable synthesis routes. We then discuss the problems associated with ageing structures. We then address the problem of addressing and obtaining full color in the case of OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diodes). Finally, we describe the performance of the various displays marketed to date, as well as that of the most technically advanced demonstrators.
