7. Cryogenic liquids

Superconductivity is a very special state of certain materials in the solid state, whose 2 fundamental characteristics are :

  • a complete absence of electrical resistivity, which means they can conduct electricity without resistive losses;

  • perfect diamagnetism (Meissner effect), which refers to the phenomenon of total exclusion of all magnetic fields from the interior of a superconductor when it is brought to a temperature below its critical temperature.
