7. Microwave ferrites

In practice, the microwave range extends from 100 MHz to 100 GHz. Ferrites are used in two types of devices:

  • non-reciprocal" devices such as circulators and insulators. These devices are components that "direct" an electromagnetic wave in a circuit. In the case of the n-channel circulator, the electromagnetic wave entering through channel n - p can only leave through channel n - p + 1 (see figure 12 ). An isolator is simply a component placed between two waveguides that allows the wave to pass only in the direction from input to output. In the opposite direction, it is very attenuated;

  • reciprocal" devices, such as electrically controllable phase shifters. This type of device includes solutions that compete with ferrites,...
