6. Outlook and developments

Air permeability is one of the factors in textile materials that determine the comfort of the wearer in relation to his or her environment. The prediction of permeability is useful in the design of multi-layer protective clothing or the dimensioning of technical textiles. The challenges are to select the right models and prediction tools, and to transfer them to industry to help R&D teams size fabrics and select the textile complexes to be used. This selection depends on the intended application. Since quality control necessarily involves permeability measurement, future developments could involve equipment, for example, with the generalization of dual-use equipment, potentially leading to changes in current standards. Integrating emerging technologies to help improve ease of use is also an area of development.
