4. Conclusion
Since their original discovery over 40 years ago, bioactive glasses have been increasingly studied, with almost 10,000 scientific publications devoted to them. The material's unique ability to stimulate the natural repair process of bone tissue has made it the focus of numerous laboratory and clinical investigations. The number of applications is, in view of the above, relatively modest. No doubt the inventor of bioactive glasses, Prof. Larry L. Hench, would never have imagined back in 1971 that the main application for bioverre (at least in terms of quantity) today would be as an additive to toothpaste.
