6. Conclusion

Cutting soda-lime silicate glass is widely used in the automotive and construction industries. Other types of glass (borosilicate, glass-ceramic) are also used, notably in household appliances. Their stress characteristics require other materials (diamond) and other cutting wheel profiles (smaller angle).

In any case, we have seen that, to obtain a clean and precise cut, it is sufficient to follow a few principles:

  • thermal stress control ;

  • correct setting of the various parameters (angle, pressure, speed);

  • systematic maintenance of the cutting table.

Other cutting methods are also available, but these are reserved for thick lenses, complex shapes and multi-layered glass.
