2.1 Color

This characteristic applies to products that are said to be white, but which are in fact colored to varying degrees, from very pale yellow to dark brown.

There are two methods for estimating the color of petroleum products:

• the Saybolt technique (in accordance with ASTM D 156 64 and NF M 07-003): to determine the Saybolt color, the height of a column of test sample is gradually decreased until its color is clearly lighter than that of a standard.
