2. What can we understand?

2.1 Promote a common structure for all management system standards

In 2012, on the basis of in-depth work, ISO members validated the principle of a common structure for all management system standards (quality, safety, environment, information security, energy, etc.).

ISO 9001:2015 naturally adopted this structure which, in addition to defining ten standard chapters and a few sub-chapters, defines around 30% of the text of any management system standard.

These ten chapters are :

  • normative references ;

  • terms and definitions ;

  • context of the organization ;
