1. Definitions

1.1 Measurement chain components

In a CIAME (Commission industrielle-administration pour la mesure) working group, sensor users and manufacturers have defined the language to be used.

  • Sensor. Part of a measuring device used to obtain information about the quantity to be measured.

    According to this definition, the sensor is necessarily the first transducer element.

  • Transducer. Element used to transform, according to a given law, the measured quantity (or a quantity already transformed from the measured quantity) into another quantity or another value of the same quantity with a specified accuracy, and which constitutes an assembly that can be used separately....
