3. The contribution of meta-omics to soil quality assessment
3.1 Challenges and obstacles to making meta-omics an operational bio-indicator
Meta-omics" and associated recent technological developments have made it possible to better characterize the taxonomic diversity, metabolic potential, expression and activity of soil microbial communities. However, the use of a "meta-omics" approach in research does not make it a proven technique. It must first meet a certain number of criteria, such as :
its levels of repeatability, sensitivity and reproducibility, which must be known and controlled;
standardization of procedures associated with the use of this technique;
routine application.
