Ecodesign regulations for electrical engineering are defined by standards and/or directives. Standards and directives relating to the ecodesign of electrical systems have several key objectives, which include the following:
encourage improvements in energy efficiency, setting requirements for energy efficiency, standby power consumption and operating modes to encourage manufacturers to produce more energy-efficient electrical systems;
reduce the use of hazardous substances: impose restrictions on the use of hazardous substances, such as lead, mercury and cadmium, which are harmful to the environment and human health;
