4. Environmental fate of silicones
The different degradation pathways of silicones result in compounds with very different environmental characteristics. Siloxanes can be grouped into three classes, according to their physico-chemical properties: PDMS, of course, MSVs and silanols.
The end-of-life of a PDMS is shown in figure 11 . Each element is described in detail below.
