5. Our advice
Use an iterative approach to risk analysis, applying all the steps in this sheet to the following levels of detail: complete product, system, subsystem and component.
In the upstream phases of design projects, opt for functional analyses of new features and risks (AdNF followed by a functional FMECA). For advanced stages, opt for "component" analyses (AdNC followed by a component FMECA). But, ideally, combine the two approaches to ensure that your analyses are exhaustive.
When solving development problems, start with an "IS/NOT IS" analysis. This helps to establish the problem and its context, and sometimes to quickly find the cause. If the cause is not found, complete the analysis with a fault tree.
