Contrary to popular belief, confidential information is not necessarily new or secret information, in the sense that only you would know about it. It can be :
information that is shared by several people, but in a confidential manner, i.e. not accessible to everyone in a public way;
information that is publicly available, but not easily accessible to all, or that requires extensive research or special expertise;
or, more simply, information that has value and for which someone would be willing to pay to have access to it, e.g. a database of well-known information, or a market review (benchmarking), etc.
