1. Define users and usage situations

Frugal innovation is part of a broader socio-economic strategy, in which the aim is to contribute to the fight against poverty while generating economic benefits. Its anchorage in emerging country contexts enables us to respond to social issues (meeting the needs of underprivileged populations) and economic issues (opening up new markets). However, such contexts and their populations are very different from traditional markets, which implies new ways of conducting design. For example, culture is an intangible datum often carried by user models (taste, activity, leisure, motivation, which gives an exotic aspect to the character). It is therefore essential to be able to make these explicit in order to take them into account in the design of new products (cf. Functional analysis
