4. Individual protection

Personal protection is the last resort. Everything must be in place to ensure that protection is not provided by personal protection alone. Personal protective equipment (PPE) for the eyes and face includes goggles, masks, shields, mesh visors, and so on. The use of protective clothing is expanding rapidly. If the powers used are capable of starting fires, protective clothing must be flame-retardant, heat-resistant and fire-resistant. In the absence of clothing that specifically protects against optical radiation, an alternative is to wear clothing that protects against heat and fire.
