4. How to choose a respirator

The aim of this chapter is not to propose a new approach in addition to existing methods, whether standardized or recommended by prevention organizations. Nor is this the place to detail and compare the various approaches currently used around the world, as the reader may find it useful to consult the corresponding documents, the references of which, when publicly available, are given below [SE 3 974 doc].

In France and most of Europe, it is similar to that described below, while in English-speaking countries it is much more detailed and presented as an obligation for the employer, ranging from the choice of equipment to qualitative and/or quantitative verification of its suitability for the wearer and maintenance of performance over time for feasible devices.
