2. Interactions between organic molecules and apatite particles

Apatite's structure facilitates ionic substitution and exchange with the external environment, enabling the incorporation of biologically active ions. On the other hand, the adsorption of organic molecules opens the way to the design of organic/inorganic hybrid particles for various biomedical applications.

In order to synthesize and manipulate these hybrid particles, it is essential to understand the different types of interaction between the surface of apatite crystals and organic (bio)molecules. Depending on the different chemical functions presented, organic molecules have different affinities for the apatite surface. Likewise, this affinity is dependent on the physicochemical properties of the apatite component itself.
