5. Conclusion

Due to its almost ideal physical properties for association with both small peptide-like vectors and larger molecules such as antibodies, astatine has a potentially broad spectrum of applications for vectorized radiotherapy of microtumors and hematological cancers. Developments in the use of this radionuclide have long been slow, due to its limited worldwide availability. However, the announced increase in the number of particle gas pedals with the characteristics required for its production should stimulate research at both fundamental and clinical application levels. A major challenge will be to gain a better understanding of the chemical characteristics of the element astatine, so as to be able to propose robust and straightforward routes to radiolabeled vectors for the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals for clinical use.
