4. Conclusion and outlook

As this article has shown, sports biomechanics is based on scientific activities specific to the engineering sciences. From motion capture, which requires knowledge of metrology, to analog and digital signal processing, which integrates mathematical and computer skills, to the indispensable modeling of the athlete as a multi-body system, which presupposes knowledge of the fundamentals of the mechanics of material point systems, the biomechanist draws on several scientific fields that are constantly developing. To be effective, most laboratories involved in this field of research need to bring together this range of skills in a complementary research team.
