1. Inorganic ions

Capillary electrophoresis in CZE mode is perfectly suited to the analysis of inorganic ions, since these species are charged. The electrolyte, a conductive liquid that fills the capillary, is usually a buffer solution where the species migrate according to their own electrophoretic migration and the electroosmotic flow generated when a voltage is applied to the ends of the capillary, which has charged groups on its surface [P 3 365] . Two ions therefore have different speeds and are separated if their electrophoretic mobilities are different, i.e. if their charge-to-size ratios differ.
