2. Independent factor screening
The first type of screening studied here consists in determining whether, for each factor under consideration, switching from one level to another causes a significant change in the response(s) measured.
Do variations in the rolling temperature of an alloy (within a given range), the extrusion speed of a thermoplastic, the addition or non-addition of an antioxidant, or the use of a raw material of origin A, B or C have an influence on a property of the manufactured product?
This type of problem is universal and can be encountered by any experimenter. It enables the formulator, for example, to select one or two additives from several proposed, or to show that raw material conditioning has no influence... Screening matrices and the corresponding analysis tools are essentially designed...
