1.1 Definition and regulations

"Organic waste" from companies in the seafood sector is made up of organic, biodegradable residues from the production and processing of materials.

There are several possible recovery routes: animal feed, human food, the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries, energy recovery (methanization), direct land application or composting. This is why we speak of "by-products" and even "co-products" rather than "waste". This is increasingly the case in France and Europe (Norway, Denmark, Spain, for example) in seafood processing companies.
