Designation of origin
This is the name of a country, region or locality used to designate a product originating there, the quality or characteristics of which are due to the geographical environment, including natural and human factors. The product has a well-established reputation, and its production is subject to approval procedures involving the authorization of operators, control of production conditions and product control.
The appellation d'origine is a sign of quality and origin recognized since 1905 in France and since 1958 internationally (under the Lisbon Agreement).
