3. Spreading a liquid over a solid surface

When deposited on a solid surface, a liquid drop deforms and spreads out [11] . This phenomenon continues as long as the variation in the system's energy is favorable to spreading. This variation in energy is represented by the spreading parameter, which expresses the difference between the surface energy (or tension) of the dry and wetted substrate:
