2.1 Key issues and functional analysis

Introduced in the 1970s to clean up pollution from construction equipment in confined spaces (mines), oxidation catalysts are primarily designed to oxidize unburnt hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) according to the equations (1) and (2) :
