2. Securing a software application

There are a number of techniques that can be implemented during the development cycle to control incorrect software application states. These techniques make it possible to control the state of the software application and, in some cases, even to return to a correct state.

Various techniques can be used to secure software applications, such as :

  • error management ;

  • error recovery ;

  • defensive programming;

  • dual execution of the software application ;

  • data redundancy.

The aim of this section is to present these different techniques and identify their strengths and weaknesses.
