2. Tramway system components

Since the French government rehabilitated the tramway system, new projects have set and applied standards designed to ensure that the new networks deliver the maximum return on investment.

2.1 Specific constraints

The primary characteristic of a tramway network is that it can be set up and operated on existing roadways without the need to demolish buildings or build engineering structures.

In Europe, it is generally accepted that surface stations should not exceed 60 m in length, to prevent a stationary train from blocking traffic on two parallel transverse tracks.
