1. Traction program and different types of operation

Rail operations meet customers' transport needs in both passenger and freight services.

Its fundamental criterion is the Traction Program to be met by the rolling stock. Three parameters characterize this program:

  • towed load ;

  • the standard route ;

  • schedule.

1.1 Towed load

It is the sum of the payload and the empty weight of the equipment (or tare).

For passengers, it's the number per vehicle that determines the payload, bearing in mind that the average weight of a person varies according to the type of transport: with or without luggage, mainline: number of seats, urban: number of passengers...
