Fluctuating oil prices, possible geopolitical supply problems and environmental considerations are prompting nations to consider diversifying their energy resources and turning to alternative fuels.
2.1 Possible future fuels for aviation
As with other means of transport, many alternative fuels are being considered to replace the Jet A-1 :

liquefied natural gas, or methane, which can be of fossil origin or biobased if obtained by methanization (fermentation) or methanation (gasification followed by transformation of syngas into methane),
hydrogen, which can be obtained either by steam reforming of fossil or biosourced gas...
