2. Transport consumption

As the production and consumption of transport are intertwined, separate examination of one and the other reflects different points of view on the same process. Today's emphasis on the economic and technical logics of transport and logistics management calls for a more traditional sectoral approach, examining first the consumption of transport, and then the ways in which it is satisfied.

The word consumption is preferred to demand, to take account of own-account transport, which does not constitute market demand. This does not mean, however, that the share of transport regulated by the market and the share of transport outside the market are independent.
