2. Isomorphic series method
Introduced in 1954 thanks to the pioneering work of Max Perutz, this method has enabled the development of biological crystallography. It consists in introducing one or more atoms with a high atomic number (heavy atoms) into the native crystal, thereby disrupting the intensity and phase of reflections in relation to the initial structure.
