1. General overview

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) occupies a special place in the range of separative techniques, and can be considered in many respects as a hybrid between chromatography and gel electrophoresis.

Since the first work by Hjerten in capillaries with an internal diameter of 0.3 mm, this technique has gained considerable momentum with the use of capillaries with smaller diameters (75 μm) thanks to the work of Jorgenson et al.
