3. Mechanical behavior of ceramic parts

3.1 Characteristic parameters of mechanical strength

Ceramic materials have strong iono-covalent interatomic bonds, giving them a brittle mechanical behavior (figure 17 ). In fact, in simple tensile tests at room temperature (monotonic loading), ceramics exhibit linear elastic behavior [A 2 010A] and rupture occurs abruptly, without prior plastic deformation.
