5. Conclusion

In conclusion, determining molar mass is an essential step in characterizing a compound, whether it's a low molecular weight molecule or a macromolecule. By understanding the different methods, you can make the right choice for the structure under study. For macromolecules, the most widely used method in 2019 is exclusion chromatography coupled with the MALLS scattered light detector. With the SEC-MALLS system, it is possible to access not only the molar mass distribution curve, but also the average molar mass and size of the macromolecule, over a wide mass range, without calibration.
