Amplicon; amplicon

DNA fragment generated by the polymerase chain reaction.

Primer

Single-stranded DNA sequence complementary to the start of a target sequence. It serves as the starting point for synthesis of the complementary DNA strand by the DNA polymerase.

Aptamers; aptamers

Short fragments of single-stranded RNA or DNA, oligonucleotides mainly obtained synthetically. Thanks to their three-dimensional structure, they are able to bind a large number of ligands in a specific manner.
