6. Checking liquid scintillation counters

Like all measuring equipment, liquid scintillation meters must be inspected periodically to ensure that they are working properly. The nature and frequency of these checks are described in the standard CEI 61304 . This international standard is the result of the American standard ANSI N42.15 on the same subject. However, this standard should be followed more in spirit than in letter, as the evolution of meters and scintillators has rendered certain points obsolete.

The standard specifies that checks must be carried out on receipt of the equipment, after any intervention or modification, and periodically. The standard recommends a quick daily check of meters.
