7. Typical experiments

The thermogravimetric method can be used to characterize a wide range of organic and inorganic materials, ceramics and metals, and the type of measurements involved is extremely varied, as the following non-exhaustive list shows:

  • dehydration and dehydroxylation of inorganic and organic raw materials and products;

  • pyrolysis and decomposition of polymers, inorganic and organic materials ;

  • reaction in different reducing atmospheres (hydrogen, CO...);

  • oxidation, combustion ;

  • study in corrosive atmospheres ;

  • study under humid atmosphere (water vapor) ;

  • analysis of emitted gases using spectrometric (MS, FTIR) and chromatographic methods....
