1. Reasons for choosing ATM

The Compagnie des transports strasbourgeois CTS has a telecommunications network on line A, built on two parallel fiber optic networks (single-mode and multimode) in the tramway line A infrastructure. Several applications specific to CTS operations are managed over these networks: telephony, video, public address, BMS, Ethernet network interconnection, etc.

In 1998, as part of the introduction of lines B and C, the CTS wanted to ensure that the choice of technology for the new network was appropriate.

The chosen medium is single-mode optical fiber (see [E 7 110]...
