6. Ethernet as a field network: PROFINET open standard

Since 2000, the PROFIBUS International association has been developing the PROFINET standard as an Industrial Ethernet solution to cover all the needs of industrial automation as a fieldbus. The basic principle is to use the latest standards and techniques for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet on twisted pair and RJ45 connectors, and the TCP/IP protocol.

6.1 Cabling and installation guidelines for Ethernet as a field network

The international standards ISO/ IEC 11801 and its equivalent NF EN 50173-1 define an application-independent computer network cabling system for buildings. These two standards are largely identical in content, but do not take into account the needs of the industrial automation world, such as :
