2. MES software typology

2.1 Importance of targeted processes

As reflected in the ISA-88 standard, targeted processes play a very important role. Indeed, even if a company readily admits that its accounting and even its financial management are best practice, and allow the application of software solutions common to virtually all companies, these same companies generally regard their manufacturing processes as unique, and requiring their own analysis and solutions.

It is also true, as shown by the work of ISA-95, that the three main types of process will induce very different constraints in terms of production optimization. For a continuous process, control of process parameters is essential: we seek to identify the slightest drift, and mathematical tools for monitoring process stages...
