3. Use of materials with low environmental impact

Unlike work on energy conservation, very little research has been carried out on the use of low environmental impact materials for robot bodies. This section will focus on the design of industrial robots made of wood, since wood has been the most widely used material for robot eco-design purposes, but existing work on the use of materials other than wood will also be presented.

3.1 Designing industrial robots from wood

Wood is a bio-sourced material with interesting properties that make it relevant for the manufacture of robot components.
