7. Conclusion
Gas detection is the first link in the safety detection chain for property and people. A great deal of research has been carried out over the past 30 years, but there has been little overall development of measurement technologies reaching the marketing stage. The main new developments are linked to advances in electronics and measurement techniques, which, thanks to digital processing, have improved detector response and taken better account of influencing factors.
Acoustic technology is one of the latest technologies to have emerged, and is now playing an increasingly important role in the market. It can be used on its own or as a complement to other existing technologies, and for a wide range of fixed or portable detection applications.
