5.1 Installation of fixed detectors

Gas detectors detect the presence of gas only if :
the gas comes into contact with the sensor's sensitive element, in the case of a fixed "point" sensor;
the gas is present in the optical path of the device if it is an open-path detector;
the leak is located within the detection zone if it is an acoustic detector.
Their location is therefore very important in terms of safety.
To ensure effective detection, we need to know how gases behave in the event of a leak, and take into account the following parameters: outdoor or indoor site, potential sources...
