 INTRODUCTION

For measuring machines, as for any other means of measurement, methods and means have gradually been developed for determining geometric errors and checking metrological performance.

This article focuses on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs, coordinate measuring machines). The methods and means described can also be applied to uni- and bidirectional measuring machines.

Sections 2 and 3 are aimed specifically at CMM users. They describe the state of the art for verifying machine metrological performance (acceptance inspection and periodic monitoring).

On the other hand, 4 enables manufacturers and maintenance departments to take stock of all the means at their disposal to determine the various geometric errors.
