2. Reference materials for metrology

A reference material is a material (pure or mixed) that is used for :

  • equipment calibration ;

  • metrological traceability and uncertainty assessment ;

  • method development or validation ;

  • as well as various quality control steps.

There are three families of reference materials:

  • reference material (MR, not certified) ;

  • certified reference material (CRM) ;

  • quality control material (QCM).

In 2013, in the specific context of the development of nanoparticle metrology, a new class of test materials was proposed and called "representative test materials" (RTMs)...
