6. Calibration of speed measuring devices

6.1 Basic principles. Traceability

Tachometric measurements are in the time-frequency domain, where speed n (expressed in rpm) is related to frequency ν (expressed in hertz) by the relationship :

n = 60 ν

Depending on the equipment to be calibrated, the reference is either a frequency generator or a frequency counter, which must of course be calibrated themselves.
